Peppermint Days in Lyons, NY

The history of peppermint oil unfolds in the local small town of Lyons, NY. The town celebrates all things peppermint during annual Peppermint Days festival. The weekend celebrations include tastes from local food vendors, a parade through the heart of town, and a massive fire works display. About a half hour drive from the campground, this unique celebration is a wonderful must see while camping at the Waterloo Finger Lakes KOA.

Phelps Sauerkraut Festival

DEC designates several dates throughout the year as free fishing days, which allows anyone to recreationally fish without a freshwater fishing license in New York State! September 27 (National Hunting and Fishing Day) is a designated free fishing day. This offers the perfect opportunity to try out fishing for the first time, for getting back into the sport after taking a break, or for taking a friend or the whole family along to fish!

It's the perfect time to share notes and stories from life on the road and all that the Finger Lakes has to offer.

Sunset Paddle & Canal Lock Experience

Take in the beautiful sites of the Seneca River as the summer sun sets for the evening and paddle our kayaks through Lock #4 of the famous NY State Canal System. The 20 minute paddle to the canal located in the village of Waterloo departs from the campground kayak launch and is a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow campers and local wildlife. Once our group has arrived at Lock #4 we'll experience the lock operation first hand as the river's water level is lowered and then raised. After a brief chat with the lock master, we'll head back to campground as a group. Guests of all ages and abilities are encouraged to join us. The rivers slow and gentle flow is perfect for first time paddlers and those of us a bit longer in the tooth!

Birthplace of Memorial Day! Celebrate Commemorate and Parade

Our little home of Waterloo claims it's fame as the nation's birthplace for Memorial Day. Never wanting to forget our fallen heroes, village insiders during the Civil War planned and created the first Memorial Day in 1866. Ceremonies and parades made the weekend special every year since and in 1966 LBJ made Waterloo the official Birthplace of Memorial Day by Presidential Proclamation. This years events include, live music, children's games, a car show, an arts and crafts fair. The parade honoring our fallen heroes takes place on Saturday, May 25.
